As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality maintenance and repair services for customer equipment at various field locations or, when not assigned to a field service job, you will work from your company truck stationed at designated locations outside of the shop. You will troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other system issues, all while adhering to recovery and efficiency metrics. A significant part of your role includes keeping your truck clean, maintained, and ready for use by the company, including when you're on vacation. This position requires flexibility to perform duties both in the field and from various work locations, ensuring the company's service goals are met with professionalism and high standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tech Recovery (Recovery Rate Metrics):
- Minimize time spent on repairs to improve recovery rates.
- Strive to meet or exceed a recovery rate goal of 80% by ensuring time clocked aligns with time billed.
- Track and report recovery rates to the Service Manager and actively seek ways to improve performance.
2. Efficiency Performance (Efficiency Rate Metrics):
- Complete repairs within the estimated time outlined on the work order.
- Aim to meet or exceed an efficiency rate of 100%, ensuring repairs are completed on time or faster.
- Regularly track and review your efficiency rate to identify areas for improvement, working with the Service Manager to improve future estimates.
3. Repair & Maintenance of Customer Equipment:
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on customer equipment in the field, ensuring top performance and minimal downtime.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on-site, completing repairs efficiently.
- Ensure all work performed meets safety standards and customer expectations.
4. Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Diagnose and repair a wide range of equipment issues, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems, at customer job sites.
- Work to reduce repair time without sacrificing service quality, ensuring minimal downtime for customer equipment.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager or PSM to address complex issues or delays in repair processes.
5. Customer Service & Communication:
- Communicate repair progress, timelines, and potential delays clearly with customers and internal team members.
- Set realistic recovery time expectations and provide timely updates on repairs.
- Ensure effective collaboration with customer representatives to resolve any issues or concerns during service.
6. Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols when working both in the field and on customer sites.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and customer specifications.
- Maintain safe work environments in the field to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
7. Daily Service Schedule Monitoring & Communication:
- Monitor the daily service schedule to ensure that all assigned field service work is completed on time.
- Communicate with the Service Manager or dispatch team about scheduling changes, delays, or additional resources needed.
- Proactively address scheduling conflicts and adjust as necessary to meet customer deadlines and commitments.
8. Field Work & Flexibility:
- Perform repairs and maintenance directly at customer locations, ensuring high-quality service in various environments (e.g., construction sites, remote locations).
- Adapt to varying work conditions and handle challenging or complex on-site service requirements.
- When not assigned fieldwork, work out of your company truck stationed at designated locations, performing required repairs or maintenance services as needed.
9. Truck Maintenance & Responsibility:
- Keep your company truck clean, well-maintained, and fully stocked with tools and parts needed for field service.
- Ensure your truck is in good working order by conducting regular checks and performing minor repairs as needed, reporting any issues that require professional service.
- The truck is your responsibility and must be kept in a state of readiness for use at all times, including during vacations, when it must be made available for company use if required.
- Maintain accurate inventory of parts and tools in your truck and ensure it is replenished when necessary.
10. Bobcat Warranty Compliance:
- Follow all Bobcat warranty guidelines when performing repairs on customer equipment, ensuring proper warranty claims and documentation.
- Accurately document all warranty-related repairs, including parts, labor, and other necessary information for Bobcat processing.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager to ensure warranty requirements are met and claims are processed effectively.
11. Inventory Management:
- Manage and track inventory levels for parts and tools used during field repairs, ensuring availability and reducing downtime.
- Maintain an organized stock of parts in your service vehicle, minimizing delays during customer service calls.
- Work with the Service Manager to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained for field operations.
12. Training & Development:
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with new repair technologies, safety standards, and customer service expectations.
- Seek feedback on performance and areas for improvement to ensure high recovery and efficiency metrics.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest equipment maintenance and repair techniques for better field service outcomes.
13. Reporting & Documentation:
- Document all field service work accurately, including time spent on repairs, parts used, and any delays encountered.
- Report recovery and efficiency metrics to the Service Manager, highlighting areas for improvement.
- Ensure all service reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner, with detailed notes for future reference or follow-up work.
