No two remodels look exactly alike, and for good reason. We approach each one with a customized combo of the latest enhancements from our next generation of store design to meet the unique needs of a store and the neighborhood around it.
At Target we believe in our team members having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. The role of a Remodel Team Leader can provide you with the:
- Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest first culture on your team
- Knowledge of retail business fundamentals: department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
- Skills in planning department(s) daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver sales goals
- Skills in process improvements and workload efficiency
- Experience leading a team of hourly team members; including skills in interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining talent
As a Remodel Team Leader, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:
- Train and lead a knowledgeable and engaged remodel team
- Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience. Model, train and coach expectations to deliver the service standard.
- Enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is in stock, available, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor
- Keep remodel project timely through daily planning, execution and collaboration with store and construction teams
- Create a scheduling plan in partnership with the ETL Remodel to support weekly workload
- Lead and direct remodel transition process, inclusive of fixtures, signs, displays, etc. in partnership with dedicated business owners
- Establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable to expectations
- Work a schedule that aligns to business needs (this may include early morning, evening, overnight shifts and weekends)
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
- Always demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance. Lead and hold the team accountable to work in the same way
- Proactively identify issues and follow correct escalation paths to resolve issues in a timely manner
- If applicable, as a key carrier, follow all safe and secure training and processes
- Address store needs (emergency, regulatory visits, etc.)
- Know and assess the competition; leverage guest insights and feedback to drive the business and be the destination of choice for our guests
- All other duties based on business needs
Dayside Remodel TL
- Plan, prep and stage each night’s workload for the overnight remodel team to execute
- Audit planogram (POG) set accuracy and follow up on issues until resolution
- Reorder and follow-up on fixtures, signing, displays, supplies and equipment to ensure all materials needed for sets are received
- Develop a strategy and utilize your workload planning tools to complete all scheduled workload ensuring you are guest ready at all times
Overnight Remodel TL
- Act as the overall point of contact for the store overnight and meet with the General Contractor (GC) and/or Fixture Contractor (FC) daily to maintain strong partnerships and execution of the project by open each day
- Train and coach the remodel team on the accuracy of merchandise sets, including setting all fixtures, displays and signing according to POG
- Coordinate and troubleshoot for the store team as they set per the sequence schedule
- Work with the GC and store team to have the store guest ready by open each day
- Partner with the Property Management Lead (PML) to maintain a consistent housekeeping schedule
- Coordinate with the store team and GC to direct fixture accessories and ISM pallets into containers

The good news is that we have some amazing training that will help teach you everything you need to know to be a General Merchandise Team Leader. But there are a few skills you should have from the get-go:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Previous retail experience preferred, but not required
- Lead and hold others accountable
- Learn and adapt to current technology needs
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
- Welcoming and helpful attitude
- Effective communication skills

- Interpret instructions, reports and information
- Accurately handle cash register operations
- Climb up and down ladders
- Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds
