Traffic Controller

Tarheel Paving & Asphalt Co. is seeking a Traffic Controller Flagger to join our team in Hendersonville, NC.

Responsibilities:

• We are looking to hire an observant flagger to monitor the flow of traffic around paving sites. The flagger’s responsibility will include informing motorists of possible route detours, reporting disobedient drivers, and answering motorists' questions. The flagger should be able to direct emergency vehicles safely through the paving zone as required. A flagger will need to have good communication skills and work as a team player. Be able to demonstrate knowledge of state traffic regulations as well as observation skills.
• Use hand signals and direction signs to direct traffic around road construction sites.
• Communicate with other flaggers using hand-held radios to direct two-way traffic onto a single lane.
• Inform the crew of any traffic issues that may affect safety issues.
• Set warning and detour signs around road construction areas.
• Remove signs, barricades, and traffic cones upon completion of project.
• Assist crew with removing materials such as debris, or rubble.
• Record plate numbers of motorists who neglect to obey traffic direction or signs.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certification through the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA).
• Experience working as a flagger.
• Ability to work as a team and stand for extended periods of time.
• Valid Driver’s License with good driving record. Must pass drug test and background check. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
• Have communication and observation skills.
