Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:
The Corporate Counsel – Claims and Litigation will be responsible for directing activity related to the defense of company litigation and claims. The Tarian Group provides security-related services to customers in varied environments, including healthcare facilities, commercial environments of numerous types, event locations and at critical infrastructure facilities. Litigation managed by this position will include all the varied types of claims that flow from these operations, including employment law matters, general liability claims involving people, property and vehicles, and business disputes. The Corporate Counsel will be responsible for supporting external counsel in the defense and prosecution of claims and litigation. Additionally, the Corporate Counsel will work closely with the the rest of the team to continuously improve the business by improving processes and taking advantage of lessons learned through litigation. The Corporate Counsel will work in a dynamic environment that values innovation, initiative and respectful interactions. Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Active bar admission in at least one state
- Minimum 3 years of law firm litigation experience
- Commitment to treating others professionally, fairly and with dignity and respect.
- Ability to communicate clearly and with sound judgment in writing and verbally to individuals of all levels of responsibility both within the company and externally.
Additional Helpful Experience / Skills:
- Broad litigation experience with: general liability matters and employment claims.
- Experience working with the following administrative agencies at the Federal and State level: EEOC, DOL, and OSHA.
- Experience dealing with employment issues related to pay, breaks, ADA, FMLA, leave, discipline, terminations, collective bargaining agreements and other labor and union issues.
- Experience with and understanding of personal injury claims and workers’ compensation claims.
- Experience interpreting insurance policies and interacting with insurance companies, brokers and third party administrators.
- Aptitude and experience identifying and reducing business risks identified through litigated matters.
- Desire and drive to continuously improve the business through process improvements that reduce risk, save money and enhance the work environment of company employees.
- Self-motivated and in-tune with the urgency of the demands of the business.
- Process driven, with ability to manage complex projects, while leading and motivating others to achieve objectives on time.
- Confident and able to work well and remain calm under pressure.
- A leader, with the desire to always help others as needed, committed to the improvement of the department and the business in general.
- Ability to develop and present information to small and large groups of employees, both in person and through electronic means, in a manner that is concise, informative and motivating.
- Successful track record of managing external counsel relationships.
- Experience drafting company policies.
