Job Summary
The Controls Engineer will work in conjunction with the engineering, production and maintenance departments. The primary job responsibility is to support production through effective and timely equipment downtime troubleshooting. Develop and implement equipment control and process improvements through the use of technology and automation. This role will report directly to the Engineering Manager. For emergency manufacturing and maintenance support, the controls engineer may receive direction from the director of maintenance, facility maintenance or plant manager(s).
Responsibilities
- Implement equipment and / or process improvements through the effective use of PLC's, servo or variable speed drives, camera technology, robotic technology and any other resource(s) available to him / her.
- Daily communication and interface with suppliers will be required. This position is expected to effectively team with suppliers and original equipment manufacturers and will appropriately represent Tarkett USA.
- Assist the maintenance staff in operational debug of machine controllers, motion systems, robotics, HMI's, and all other related components in a timely and efficient manner utilizing Tarkett's standard techniques and approach.
- Train automation and electronics technicians, thus improving the overall department skills and abilities.
- Assist the appropriate mechanical / process engineer in machine validation, both internally and at the customer's facility while maintaining Tarkett work ethics and standards.
- Communicate with the project "team" to ensure a constant level of project awareness.
- Ensuring all schematics and / or back up programs of PLC's, HMI, camera systems, etc, are kept current and correct.
- Attend certain technical training classes, as deemed necessary by the Engineering Manger, and pass this knowledge along to peers and / or electrical maintenance personnel.
- Conceptualize, design, build and implement simple to complex control systems and manufacturing equipment.
- Monitoring the age, condition and operating condition of all control systems (i.e., PLC, HMI, motor controls, heat controls, etc) and creating / managing capital projects to upgrade or replace these systems when required.
