Job Description Summary
The Certified Phlebotomist adheres to standard blood drawing practices and safety protocols. The
position entails visiting patients, collecting test samples and dropping them off at laboratoires. Lab
Requisitions must be attached to the specimens.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
1. Traveling to patient homes to draw blood samples as required.
2. Gathering mandatory information from patients and verifying their identities.
3. Disinfecting extraction sites using alcohol swabs. Adhering to infection control protocols.
4. Washing and drying hands before every collection.
5. Cleaning puncture sites and covering them with gauze, cotton-wool balls, or sticking plasters.
6. Appropriately discarding used needles, syringes, and other items used during venipuncture
procedures.
7. Appropriately storing blood samples in accordance with established guidelines.
8. Accurately labeling blood samples.
9. Maintaining accurate patient records, which includes detailing any medical issues experienced by
patients during venipuncture procedures that may affect the accuracy of test results.
10. Transporting collected blood samples to the laboratory for testing. Using requisition forms.
