Job Summary

Reporting to the Divisional Dean, the Learning Lab Manager is responsible for organizing, managing, and coordinating the instructional laboratory operation with faculty to support instructional effectiveness.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*

  • Maintains inventory records and an accurate accountability for all supplies, materials, equipment, and software computer packages in multiple labs
  • Researches and purchases specialized items for the assigned learning labs
  • Manages the purchasing, sourcing, maintenance, and expense of laboratory items to ensure a student-ready learning environment
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates operational policies and procedures for the laboratory, as directed
  • Writes reports and maintains summaries of lab usage
  • Develops instructional objectives, plans, and assessment tools for the area of responsibility
  • Provides advisement and assistance to supplement instructional programs and facilitates the achievement of educational goals
  • Plans, organizes, prepares, develops, and coordinates various lab activities, teaching aids and materials, and outlines lessons and plans as required in assigned area
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role-playing
  • Prepares, administers, and grades examinations as directed
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts
  • Develops informational materials describing laboratory services
  • Provides tutoring and mentoring services to students as needed
  • Inspects all safety and emergency equipment and supplies to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Teaches classes, as applicable

General Supervision and Management

Trains and supervises employees assigned to the laboratory

Service Excellence

  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Divisional Dean

  • Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements in the specialized field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/ or experience
  • At least one (1) year’s working experience supervising employees (e.g., managing and evaluating performance of others)
  • Aviation Department Only: current Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certificate and at least one (1) year’s working experience with Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT), Composites, Avionics, Welding Technology, and Non-destructive Inspection and Testing (NDTE) practical application resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • At least one (1) successfully completed college-level course in the specialized field
  • At least one (1) year’s working experience leveraging continuous improvement concepts such as LEAN (5s) for applicable labs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in oral, electronic, and written communications
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to meet College and campus deliverables

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
