- Prepares criminal-court budgets as requested, administers approved budgets, and ensures the business office operates within the approved budget.
- Monitors costs of staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; suggests cost-saving programs.
- Manages personnel resources to support court needs.
- Prepares the budget for Office of Attorney Appointments and assists in grant activities related to indigent defense, which includes applying for and monitoring discretionary grants and providing information to the auditor for formula grants.
- Develops and implements court software.
- Assists with process implementation for the criminal courts.
- Oversees and coordinates the collection, compilation, and analysis of criminal courts’ program-activity data.
- Establishes, monitors, and recommends changes to the criminal courts’ administrative business policies and procedures.
- Analyzes activities, costs, operations, budget patterns, and forecast data to determine criminal-court progress and needs.
- Prepares and processes requests by the elected criminal court judges for approval by the Commissioners Court.
- With the assistance of the appropriate manager, researches and writes grants, processes grant awards, negotiates contracts with vendors, and monitors an accurate database of contracts.
- Conducts various studies, prepares reports, and advises the Criminal Courts Administrator on the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of department programs as requested.
- Tracks and monitors case flow and workloads in the criminal courts.
- Maintains accurate accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Analyzes expenditures to ensure proper resource allocation.
- Under the direction of the Administrative Criminal Judges Panel, manages hiring, training, evaluation, reclassification, dispute resolution, and discipline of business office staff. Assists other managers, general counsel, and chief magistrate with these issues regarding those whom they supervise.
- Assists auditor with attorney payment voucher issues.
- Participates in strategic planning, emergency preparedness, priority setting, organizational analysis, and other assigned projects.
- Maintains organizational charts, job descriptions, and database of positions, grades, and accurate pay rates.
- Manages courtrooms, offices, supplies, parking, and other court areas, including upkeep and space-assignment needs.
- Responsible for onboarding newly elected criminal court judges, chamber employees, criminal court employees, and interns.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED.
TO APPLY, must have Bachelor's degree or higher. A master’s degree is preferred.
TO APPLY, must have Six (6) full-time years of related work experience including three (3) or more full-time years of budget and accounting work experience or other equivalent experience.
TO APPLY, must have current and valid driver license.
TO APPLY, must become TLETS certified within six (6) months of employment.
TO APPLY, must have strong computer skills. Required.
TO APPLY, must have broad knowledge of issues facing criminal courts, specialty courts, and Magistration practices.
Knowledge of County government and Tarrant County in particular is desired.
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past Seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment.
