The basic purpose of this position is to conduct substance abuse assessments, make appropriate recommendations, and deliver treatment services.

Treatment services may include group facilitation, individual counseling, and treatment team meetings.

  1. Conducts substance use assessments and provide appropriate recommendations for treatment factoring in criminal history and risk/needs assessments.
  2. Reviews requests for additional treatment options.
  3. Works with supervising community supervision officer in continued evaluation and monitoring of probationer. 
  4. Conducts individual and group sessions as needed.
  5. Maintains case progress notes for probationers in individual and group sessions.
  6. Interacts with referral agencies.
  7. Advises probationers of outside resources for assistance.
  8. May plan, develop, and conduct training sessions as needed.
  9. Provides back-up support to counseling staff in the absence of the program supervisor and the assistant program supervisor. 
  10. Performs all other duties as assigned.

TO APPLY, must have a Master's degree or higher in counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university..

TO APPLY, must be a fully licensed, master-level Counselor as defined by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Note:  Intern applicants do not meet the criteria for this position.  Acceptable licensure: (LMSW, LPC, LMFT, LCSW).

MUST PROVIDE LICENSING AGENCY AND LICENSE NUMBER IN "CERTIFICATES AND LICENSING" SECTION OF THE APPLICATION OR RISK DISQUALIFICATION.

Meet and maintain TDCJ-CJAD training hours requirement.  

Skilled in counseling and interviewing and has a working knowledge of community referral sources.  

Knowledge and understanding of CSCD Policies and Procedures.  

Knowledge and understanding of CJAD Standards.  

Knowledge of evidence-based supervision and treatment interventions.  

Knowledge of criminal thinking and how it relates to substance use disorders, crisis intervention techniques, and available resources.  

Knowledge of advocacy groups, clinical service providers, and community outreach programs.  

Knowledge of social learning theory and behavior management principles.  

Knowledge of graduated treatment responses to non-compliance as it relates to substance use disorders.  

Knowledge of relapse prevention strategies.  

Knowledge of principles and procedures of case file documentation and computer operating software.  

Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.  

Ability to work independently and to make appropriate, sound decisions, and recommendations.  

Review risk and needs assessments to determine if treatment recommendations are appropriate.  

Counseling and intervention assistance to those being supervised by CSCD.  

Developing probationer treatment plans and behavioral contracts to better engage in the treatment process.  

Motivational interviewing and motivational enhancement techniques.  

Open to and appropriately responds to constructive feedback given by supervisory staff regarding work performance.  

Ability to apply counseling theory practice and procedures. 

Ability to effectively prioritize and manage work schedules, deadlines, and special projects.  

Mastery of departmental information systems to include electronic case management system and related software.

CSCD will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past Seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to lift and transport case files to court, sit, walk, and stand. The incumbent must work with unpredictable and potentially violent probationers. Situations may occur in an office setting as well as the probationer's home environment. Employee may be exposed to communicable and contagious diseases.

Salary : $29 - $32
