TITLE: Queen Field Crew Beekeeper
ROLE OVERVIEW
Participate in the queen season logistics including all necessary preparations for the process. Ensure cell builders and breeders boxes are maintained. Communicate and support queen sales crew with marking queens for sale, packaging queens and maintaining queen banks. Communicate with Field Operations Manager & Management & Coworkers about all equipment and supplies to ensure the grafting operations are running smoothly. Responsible for maintaining queen banks to ensure health and caged queens are viable.
As a beekeeper for TA, you must have a commitment to safety while operating all of your daily tasks. Self-starter who can work independently with little supervision. Enthusiastically acknowledge and role model guidelines, policies and procedures expected by the company. In addition, encourage positive morale when working in crews and continue to improve operations through the lens of our Core Values: Integrity, Work Ethic, Commitment, Attitude, and Consistency.
GENERAL JOB TASKS
- Catch queens in field hives accurately and carefully according to breed type
- Prepare and maintain grafting room ensuring all supplies are ready and in good working order
- Monitor cell builders for health and productivity
- Monitor breeders boxes for health and productivity
- Communicate and support queen sales crew with marking queens for sale, packaging queens
- Maintaining queen banks for health and productivity
- Communicate consistently and clearly both verbally and in writing with all TA team members
- Notice where there may be holes in operations and collaborate on solutions to fix them
- Any additional Tauzer Apiaries beekeeping responsibilities given
REQUIREMENTS
- 4 years of experience in beekeeping and queen breeding
- Ability to safely work around bees
- Keep up to date with all required safety trainings
- Be reliable, punctual, and available at odd hours, while having versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing season priorities
- Demonstrate respectful behavior and positive interpersonal skills with all TA employees
- Ability to wear applicable personal protective equipment (PPE) including chemical resistant gloves and boots, safety glasses, bee suit/jacket, and head veil
EXPECTATIONS:
Self-starter who can work independently with little supervision. Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team. Required to have versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm and attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through. Strong positive interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and follow written/verbal instructions required.
