Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to work 1:1 with a student throughout the school day. The Paraprofessional will provide individualized support to help the student with self-regulation, following school rules, and engaging in classroom activities. This role is critical in fostering a positive learning environment and ensuring the student's academic and social success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 Support: Work closely with the assigned student to assist with self-regulation strategies, behavior management, and adherence to school rules throughout the school day.
- Implement Behavior Plans: Follow and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as designed by the student's educational team.
- Promote Independence: Encourage and support the student in developing independence in managing their behavior and completing academic tasks.
- Monitor Progress: Track the student's progress in meeting self-regulation goals and provide feedback to teachers, special education staff, and parents/guardians as needed.
- Facilitate Communication: Support the student in communicating effectively with peers and staff, including using any communication devices or techniques specified in the student's plan.
- Assist with Transitions: Help the student transition between activities and settings throughout the school day, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruptions.
- Classroom Assistance: Support the classroom teacher in maintaining a conducive learning environment, including assisting with instructional activities and classroom management as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of the student's daily activities, progress, and any incidents that occur during the school day.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to ensure the student receives comprehensive support.
- Maintain Confidentiality: Adhere to all school policies regarding student confidentiality and ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational or therapeutic setting is highly desirable. Experience with behavior management and self-regulation strategies is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of child development and behavior management techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use educational software.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not already held.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move around the classroom and school environment.
- May require lifting and supporting the student as needed.
- Must be able to respond quickly to the student’s needs, including physical intervention if necessary.
Work Environment:
- The Paraprofessional will work primarily in a classroom setting but may also support the student in other school environments, such as the cafeteria, playground, or during off-campus activities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.21 - $16.22 per hour
Expected hours: 30 per week
