Description
Summary / objective
The Admissions Specialist is responsible for systematically and ethically promoting enrollment and starting qualified students, all within standards and guidelines established by the institution. Additionally, the Admissions Specialist must utilize discretion and independent judgment with respect to reviewing prospective student requirements for entrance into their program of interest.
Essential functions
Clearly articulate the mission, values and offerings of the institution to prospective students.
Maintains communication by phone, text, email, mail and / or virtual mediums of correspondence with prospective students through all stages of the recruitment and admission process in a courteous, clear, efficient, and timely manner.
Visit secondary schools and other educational institutions as appropriate to meet with prospective students, guidance counselors, community agencies, teachers, administrators, and related organizations.
Conducts personal interviews to qualify candidates, presents features and benefits of the program offerings and prepares the student to start school.
Uses all approved marketing and recruiting tools to consistently and accurately represent the program offerings and career opportunities.
Effectively addresses students' concerns and assists them in their transition into school.
Accurately presents the responsibility of the student as to what it takes to successfully start school, be successful in school and motivate the student to graduate from school.
Maintains full knowledge of the institution catalog so as to be able to fully explain all course offerings and to select a program which best fits each student's needs and goals.
Completes all relevant applications and assures all required documents are obtained so that the student meets the admissions requirements of the institution.
Completes the student application process by obtaining the application fee if applicable and the student application form.
Refers students to the financial aid department so that financial aid can be considered and be available if qualified. Admissions representatives may not provide guidance to prospective students regarding financial aid.
Communicates with other departments to convey the needs of each individual student.
Participates as a team player.
Utilizes competent administrative skills by completing enrollment tasks done on time and within budget.
Commits the time, work effort and job skills to achieve the enrollment goals and objectives of the institution.
Advising prospective applicants, parents, and returning students concerning programs of study, admission standards, deadlines, policies, and procedures.
Serves as the initial contact for prospective students by discussing various course offerings, admissions policies, and procedures; answers specific inquiries, maintains contact with prospective students, and ensures completion of application materials of students in admissions process.
Performs other duties as requested or assigned, verbally or in writing.

Work environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
