Taylor Freezer of Chesapeake is a distributor for Taylor Company. We sell and service Taylor equipment throughout the states of Virginia and North Carolina. Therefore, our service technicians will need to have a valid driver’s license in good standing as they will be servicing equipment throughout the Virginia and North Carolina areas.
We have many national accounts with required response times. Therefore, all service technicians are subject to overtime to fulfill our required responses to our customers’ calls. Occasional overnight stays may also be required when servicing equipment in distant parts of the state. Service technicians are subject to an “on call” rotation on holidays.
Customer service is paramount and like all employees, service technicians are expected to maintain and enhance our customer relationship. Pleasant, respectful, and helpful attitudes and approaches are required. All employees are representatives of the company. But service technicians have a special opportunity since they are on-site working with the customer personally. They are the primary contact with the customer.
All employees begin with a probationary period of 90 days. But due to the technical aspects of the position, service technicians also go through a field training period riding along and working with other technicians to get experience with different equipment, technology, processes, and procedures. During the probationary period, you will be trained on how to clean freezer equipment, how to perform freezer certifications, and how to perform grill certifications. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to accurately complete these tasks on your own before moving into a Service Technician role. Some of the responsibilities during the probationary period include:
Responsibilities
Product System:
- Drain product and remaining mix from the machine
- Rinse machine with cool water
- Brush and rinse mix hoppers with approved cleaning/sanitizing solution
- Disassemble machine for thorough brush cleaning of the components at the sink
- Lubricate and reassemble machine
- Sanitize machine following assembling for operation
- Prime machine with fresh mix
- Start machine in AUTO to freeze down and check product temperature
Syrup System:
- Drain, rinse, and sanitize the syrup lines
- Disassemble, brush clean, lubricate, and sanitize syrup valves
- Prime syrup lines
- Calibrate syrups according to the customer’s specification
Miscellaneous Tasks Included:
- Install Tune-up kit to replace wear components quarterly
- Replace scraper blades on soft serve side quarterly
- Replace scraper blades on shake side every 6 months
- Replace pump tubes annually (minimum)
- Inspect/Clean mesh filters quarterly, replace annually
- Inspect drip pans for leakage/clean as needed
- Check topping bath water level/fill to mark
- Record and inform manager about the amount of mix discarded
- Check/record last heat cycle data
- Check/record freezer lock occurrences since last brush cleaning
- Record freeze down time for shake and soft serve
- Check product temperature
- Check soft serve draw rate/ adjust as needed
- Conduct a general inspection of the exterior of the machine
There are also mandatory training programs all technicians must attend at our factory in Rockton, IL to become a certified Taylor Company service technician. This is a one-week program held annually, working with different equipment, new models, and gaining other information necessary to be an effective Taylor service technician.
The following describes some of the typical activities of a service technician. The service technician will be assigned other activities as needed by the Service Manager and Dispatcher.
Responsibilities
- Service equipment at client sites as directed by the Service Manager & Dispatcher. This includes repairs, warranty work, preventive maintenance, updates, and other service work. Activities involve adjusting, aligning, assembling, calibrating, inspecting, lubrication, and testing equipment to troubleshoot for electrical, mechanical, and electronics issues to find solutions to operational issues.
- Responsible for maintaining company-owned vehicle and the stock of inventory.
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds.

- Company vehicle to be used for service calls can be used to travel to your home
- Pay begins when you start traveling in your vehicle and ends when you return home
- Holiday and vacation pay are treated as regular hours when calculating overtime worked each week
- Any hours worked on a holiday are calculated as double time
Requirements
· At least five year’s experience in refrigeration or five year’s experience working on restaurant equipment.
· Qualified applicants must consent to a background check, including social security verification, criminal history and motor vehicle record. A 7-year residence history is required for the background check.
· Qualified applicants must consent to a drug screen panel (excluding THC).
· Qualified applicants must complete a physical exam/lift test where they can demonstrate they can lift 75 pounds.
