Primary Purpose:

To assist the coordinating principal in all aspects of providing for the educational well-being of each student in the school.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in educational administration
  • Valid Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Advanced Education Leadership (AEL0 certification, Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of teaching experience, five (5) years preferred
  • Three (3) years of educational administrative leadership experience, campus level preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

Instructional Leadership

  • Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary.
  • Provide instructional resources, materials, and a master schedule needed to accomplish instructional goals to meet student needs.
  • Work with the coordinating principal, establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
  • Solicit regular input from campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education program. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.
  • Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of school’s mission.
  • Assume administrative responsibility and instructional leadership, within district and state guidelines for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the educational program of the school.

Human Capital

  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations to the coordinating principal relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences according to the developed appraisal system.
  • Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals.
  • Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities for staff that are appropriate for their students’ instructional and behavioral needs.

Executive Leadership

  • Establish campus performance objectives for Academic Excellence Indicators in your assigned areas by using the campus planning process and involving the site-based decision making committee. Demonstrate campus progress using results to promote school improvement.
  • Provide opportunities for interactive communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools and school correspondence.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor’s accountability.
  • Participate in professional development activities to increase knowledge and improve job-related skills.
  • Support and communicate the vision of Alief ISD.
  • Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
  • Oversee all programs housed on the campus as assigned by the coordinating principal.
  • Work with the coordinating principal, build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of school’s mission.
  • Serve a diverse population of students.
  • Reinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional goals and strategies, and classroom management methods according to district expectations.
  • As directed by the coordinating principal, work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities for staff that are appropriate for their students’ instructional and behavioral needs.

School Culture

  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
  • As directed by the coordinating principal, act as campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
  • As directed by the coordinating principal, work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Create an inviting, risk free, supportive, and warm school climate that encourages optimal student development and achievement.
  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Assure supervision at special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

Strategic Operations

  • Develop and administer, as directed by the coordinating principal, campus budgets based on documented program needs and estimated enrollment ensuring that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely
  • Maintain and control the various local funds generated by student activities as directed by the coordinating principal.
  • Oversee all reports, records, and other documents for management of assets.
  • Manage use of school facilities. Oversee maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
  • As directed by the coordinating principal, supervise and evaluate the school’s extracurricular program.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with all stakeholders.

Other:

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

As directed by the coordinating principal, supervise staff assigned to campus including assistant principals(s), teachers, counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.Evaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Associate/Assistant Principal Level Personnel.

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; ability to respond and attend to emergencies anywhere on campus in a reasonable time

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; work with frequent interruptions

2024-2025 Salary Schedule 

2025-2026 Salary Schedule is pending school board approval 

 

Salary is based on working 220 days. Working less days is less salary.
