Job Title: Director of Estimating – Multifamily Construction
Job Summary: The Director of Estimating for Multifamily Construction is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire estimating department for multifamily projects. This position leads a team of estimators, manages the preparation of cost estimates, and ensures the accuracy and competitiveness of bids for all multifamily construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead and manage the estimating department, ensuring that all estimators are well-trained, productive, and aligned with company goals.
- Cost Estimation Oversight: Oversee the preparation of cost estimates for all multifamily construction projects, ensuring they are accurate, comprehensive, and in line with industry standards.
- Collaboration with Senior Leadership: Work closely with executive leadership and project managers to align estimates with company objectives and project goals. Provide insight into cost-effective approaches to construction.
- Establishing Estimating Procedures: Develop and refine estimating procedures and best practices for the team to ensure consistency, accuracy, and timeliness in all estimates.
- Risk Management & Cost Control: Identify potential risks and cost challenges in the estimating process, offering strategies to mitigate cost overruns and schedule delays.
- Bid Strategy: Lead the preparation and presentation of proposals, ensuring that bids are competitive, profitable, and align with the client’s budget and scope requirements.
- Training & Development: Provide training, mentorship, and career development opportunities for estimating staff to enhance their skills and support the growth of the department.
- Post-Project Analysis: After project completion, review the accuracy of estimates versus actual costs and assess areas for improvement in future estimates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s in Construction Management or Business) are a plus. Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), Associate Constructor (AC), or similar professional certifications preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role managing a team of estimators in multifamily or large-scale residential construction.
- Proficiency in advanced construction estimating software (e.g., Procore, Sage, Buildertrend, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Experience with large-scale multifamily construction, including low-rise and mid-rise projects.
