POSITION DESCRIPTION
This employee will report to the Quilcene Hatchery Manager and will be responsible for supervising nursery department employees while providing expertise in nursery operations. The Nursery Lead will oversee all aspects of the nursery department to ensure weekly and monthly production goals are met. They will work closely with Quilcene Hatchery Manager, Larvae Lead and Algae Lead to coordinate production requirements for the department. Work may also include providing data to the research group.
This is a very physically active position including repetitive lifting of sand, shell, and seed. You will stand and work on concrete floors for long hours on occasion. More specific duties include the following:
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Manage production broodstock conditioning
- Conduct geoduck spawns
- Maintain and manage food distribution system for the nursery
- Care for seed to promote best survival and growth from settlement to harvest
- Coordinate and prepare seed shipments and pickups
- Keep area clean and prepared for next influx of seed
- Ensure employees follow all company safety, ECOP and HR policies
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- College degree or four years of experience
- A science or farming background is preferred
- Must be able to carry out repetitive tasks
- Have good communication and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Proficiency with: (Microsoft Office- Word and Excel)
- Well organized and detail oriented
- Regular, reliable, predictable attendance
- Must be able to work weekends
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The employee is required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, squat, or stand for daily tasks.
- The employee needs to be able to lift up to 50 lbs., or 100 lbs. with assistance.
- The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, supervisors and managers.
- Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
Note: Employee must provide own transportation and housing.
