Job Description
Position Title: Family Advocate
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in human service OR a minimum three years' experience in the area of child abuse or child welfare. Excellent organization and communication skills. Ability to work with varied professions. Must have flexible nature.
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Description: Acts on behalf of the child victim and their non-offending family member to help navigate them through social service and criminal justice systems. Responsible for promoting a child focus, supportive environment at the CAC.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide ongoing support and personal advocacy to the child victim and non-offending family.
- Accompany non-offending family members and child victims to court and specialized medical appointments.
- Assist in the filing of compensation claims and victim impact statements.
- Maintain contact with family, providing ongoing support and assistance.
- Provide family with community resources and services.
- Monitor case progress and informs family of case status.
- Complete necessary case tracking documents on a timely basis. Maintains case tracking data base on assigned cases.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings. Assists Case Manager to plan and coordinate monthly team meetings.
- Maintains accurate data and documentation for grant funding reports and the Center's Annual Report.
- Provide on-call crisis intervention services. Is available to work a flexible schedule including occasional weekends and evenings.
- Provide information and referral for emergency financial assistance, shelter and transportation for families in crisis.
- Is thoroughly knowledgeable and able to articulate the mission and philosophy of the Center to community agencies and civic groups.
- Continuing education in issues related to child sexual abuse and serious physical abuse through training and professional literature review.
- Foster an open and positive relationship with all agencies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
