Job Description:
Our client, a prominent Intellectual Property (IP) law firm in Washington, D.C., is seeking to add an experienced IP Legal Assistant to their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution and will be assisting a team of 4-6 attorneys. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with patent prosecution tasks, including drafting, filing, and managing patent applications.
- Prepare and file documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other global patent offices.
- Coordinate with clients and external agencies to obtain necessary information for patent filings.
- Draft and review correspondence related to patent prosecution, including office actions, notices of allowance, and responses to USPTO communications.
- Maintain and organize case files, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Manage docketing and tracking of patent deadlines, ensuring timely responses to office actions and other related matters.
- Conduct patent research as needed and assist in the preparation of reports.
- Communicate with clients, examiners, and other external parties as required.
- Assist with billing and other administrative tasks to support attorneys.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an IP Legal Assistant or Paralegal, with a focus on patent prosecution.
- Strong understanding of patent law and the patent prosecution process.
- Experience with USPTO filings, including electronic filing and e-filing systems (e.g., EFS-Web, PAIR).
- Familiarity with patent databases and IP management systems.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and external parties.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and IP docketing software.
- A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
