Senior Satellite Network Systems Engineer

Tbwa Chiat/Day Inc
San Francisco, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 2/13/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/8/2025

As a team, we’ve launched five satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $750 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 400 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.

Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!

Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.

As a network systems engineer, you will be working on qualification and integration of ground segment equipment with the satellite payload and supporting it for global commercial and government customers. At its core, this involves understanding the different internal and external use cases for the satellite services and ensuring that we can meet our customer SLAs while providing a high quality service.

Role :

  • Support deployment of ground segment systems and integration with customer networking gear
  • Analyze customer requirements and design network solutions with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and security
  • Create test plans and procedures, and set up lab environments to test with the ground segment equipment
  • Participate in daily operational tasks, perform systems analysis, maintenance, and independent complex network system troubleshooting
  • Provide technical support to manage customer networks, install, configure, maintain network services, equipment, and devices
  • Document system issues and resolution for future reference

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CompTIA Network
  • 5 years of experience in network design and implementation, including enterprise LAN / WAN networking. Working knowledge of VLANs, GRE, GTP, IPv4 / IPv6, ICMP, DHCP, NAT, and SNMP.
  • Hands-on experience with networking equipment, including carrier grade routers and switches.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies, such as BGP and OSPF
  • Experience with network security practices, tools, and protocols
  • Knowledge of virtualization and experience with Linux servers, KVM and similar VM infrastructure
  • Knowledge or practical experience with satellite network hub systems and network operations
  • Practical experience with scripting languages e.g. Bash, Python
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network issues
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage time
  • Bonus :

  • Prior experience in a Network Engineering, Technical Support or NOC role
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches
  • Knowledge of RF systems / SATCOM systems
  • Satellites communications industry experience with HTS systems in LEO, MEO, or GEO

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov / ofccp.
