What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT/OT Medical Assistant position at TCC Health?
DEPARTMENT: Chautauqua PT&OT/TCC REPORTS TO: PT/OT Administrator
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close supervision of a PT or OT, perform only delegated, selected or routine tasks in specific situations. These duties include preparing the patient and treatment area. Maintain an efficient and orderly work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Clean and organize work area and disinfect equipment and tables after treatment.
- Observe patients for safety while bringing them back to the treatment area and at times helping them back to the waiting room or at times to their vehicles. Provide feedback on patient safety and response to the therapists when needed.
- Instruct, motivate, safeguard and assist patients practicing exercises and functional activities, under direction of physical/occupational therapist in order to assist and provide support to the therapist providing care.
- Secure patients into or onto therapy equipment.
- Transport patients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or providing standing support including gait belts, transfers, and walking behind patients with a wheelchair.
- Confer with physical therapy staff or others to discuss and give input regarding patient information for planning modifying and coordinating treatment.
- Maintain equipment and furniture to keep it in good working condition, including performing the assembly and disassembly of equipment and accessories.
- Change linens, such as pillowcases.
- Arrange treatment supplies to keep them in order.
- Assist patients to dress, undress, and put on and remove supportive devices such as braces, splints and slings.
- Be aware of the waiting room and scheduled times of patients.
- Application of moist heat and cold packs.
- Laundry - washing, drying, folding, and putting away.
- Constant communication. Let the therapists know where their patients are in their program.
- Assistance in the front office when needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Degree, Additional Training or Education preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Training provided
REQUIRED SKILLS: Communication skills; follow orders; friendly; able to multi-task.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds regularly, more occasionally, must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist intermittently throughout the work day stabilize and help with transfers and gait training of patients.
