TDC Specialty Underwriters, Inc. (TDCSU), an Excess & Surplus lines subsidiary of The Doctors Company (the nation’s largest writer of physicians’ malpractice insurance based in Napa, California), offers a broad range of professional and management liability insurance products focused on healthcare providers, institutions and organizations. TDCSU has been in existence since January 2016 and is seeking to hire experienced professionals to support its continued growth. TDCSU is headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut.
TDCSU is currently seeking Actuarial candidates to support the analytical framework underlying its business.
Responsibilities:
This is an entry level position responsible for the analysis and evaluation of appropriate data to assist manager in developing, recommending, and setting pricing and book management strategies. The position requires an analytical educational background (degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance/Economics).
Working under substantial supervision of the manager, an Assistant Actuarial Analyst is expected to:
- Provide input for pricing analyses and operational reporting
- Organizes and prioritizes own work
- Has discussions with manager to learn actuarial methods
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Progress toward completion of CAS exams
- Develops reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids
- Work closely with business partners to ensure completeness and accuracy of data
- Communicate results of analyses to manager and actuarial team

Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, or Economics/Finance/Business with quantitative emphasis or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Knowledge/Experience:
- Demonstrated interest in property/casualty insurance and actuarial science
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts (calculus, probability, and statistics)
- Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- Read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
- Make effective presentations on complex topics to underwriting management
- Ability to use advanced features of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experience working with databases. (Excel examples are pivot tables, macros, array formulas, advanced lookup and reference formulas, goal seek and solver. Word examples are creating tables, footnotes, inserting excel graphs/tables).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Passed at least one actuarial exam.
- Ability to pass all CAS exams.
