Description
Summary
Installation and repair of electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment. The employee is normally engaged in the wiring and development of special machines.
Essential Functions
- Installation wiring of machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable logic controllers (PLC), must be able to follow electrical code and blueprints, knowledge of electrical hand tools and voltage/current testing devices.
- Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, connect cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints.
- Diagnose malfunctioning equipment, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replace damaged or broken wires and cables.
- Replace faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and positioning sensing devices.
- Understands and complies with requirements of the QMS, AS9100, and/or ISO 9000.
- Limited Travel. On an "as required" basis.
Requirements
Preferred:
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in industrial wiring and electrical technician operations or a combination of technical school training plus experience or ability to demonstrate equivalent skill and ability.
- Training to include the equivalent of one (1) semester technical course in PLC operation and programming or equivalent experience in PLC operations.
- Technical school experience in industrial technology, electrical technology, electrical circuitry and systems, National Electrical Code, and industrial controller installation and programming is helpful.
- Electrician's license or similar certification.
- Proficiency in determining/calculating required wire size and insulation for a specific application, including all pertinent de-rating criteria.
- Expertise in the use of normal electrical/electronic testing and diagnostic equipment, including devices such as digital Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM), current sensors and probes, and oscilloscope.
- Competence in the use of hand and power conduit benders and other tools used for fabricating electrical conduit systems and wireways.
- Knowledge of basic machine motion components and assembly techniques.
- Expertise in DC circuits, single and three-phase AC power, and distribution circuits.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and wire and wiring diagrams and specifications.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and JIC Electrical Codes as used in the Special Machine Industry, particularly JIC EMP-1-67 and EGP-1-67.
