Job Summary

The employee is engaged in the fabrication and assembly of tooling, dies, jigs and fixtures, and includes the development of special projects and machines.


Essential Functions

  1. Manufactures and builds parts that are used and assembled into dies, jigs, fixtures, and special projects/machines.
  2. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up, and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, and jigs and fixtures.
  3. Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize products to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  4. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers.
  5. Interfaces with all levels of management, hourly team members, and, as assigned, customers.
  6. Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathes, milling machine, boring mill, and grinder, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  7. Travels for equipment or machine installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting development problems.
  8. Attends specialized training as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  9. Understands and complies with requirements of the QMS, AS9100, and/or ISO 9000.
  10. Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Preferred:

  1. Formal Department of Labor (DOL) status at the Journeyman level.
  2. AAS degree in Tool and Die Making or equivalent degree.
  3. Expertise in blueprint reading.
  4. Proficiency in the use of precision measurement devices.
  5. Competency in shop mathematics, including trigonometric and algebraic functions.
  6. Basic knowledge of fluid power, electrical, and electronic systems.
  7. Advanced knowledge of machining/manufacturing processes, assembly procedures and mechanical functions.
  8. Skill in the use of personal computer applications relating to machine shop operations.
  9. Must possess working knowledge of CNC controls, heat treatment, fluid power (hydraulic and pneumatic), and electrical systems.
  10. Competence in computer applications.
  11. Operation of forklift trucks, cranes and other powered material handling and transport equipment.
