Academic Intervention Specialist
Position Summary: To assist staff in developing and implementing academic interventions that support
student academic growth, specifically in the areas of reading and math. The specialist will also
implement targeted academic programs/classes specific to reading and computer assisted math
instruction. Manage a classroom with students if necessary.
Qualifications:
? BA/BS degree or higher
? Current Colorado license/degree in related field or actively pursuing
? Experience working with high school aged students
? Experience Response to Interventions (RtI) and/or school-based interventions
? Pass criminal background check
? Excellent written and oral communication skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
? Implement a reading intervention program/class
? Develop and execute a technology-based math intervention program/class
? Assist classroom instructors to cultivate and apply interventions to support student academic
growth
? Communicate effectively with students and staff
? Design interventions that are expeditionary, project-based, and authentic, and that align with
the SWOS curriculum model
? Develop an understanding of and practice the SWOS Design Principles
? Work to understand, practice, promote, and teach the principles of SWOSology (Character Skills)
? Collaborate with staff and parents to better understand and meet the needs of all students
? Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students
? Implement IEPs, RtI plans, 504 accommodations as necessary
? Participate in standardized testing as needed; use testing data to support instruction
? Consulting with students, parents, counselor or administration to resolve problems
? Promote an understanding and appreciation for diverse populations
? Plan and accompany students on class field work outings
? Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional travel.
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Maintain physical, mental, and emotional balance.
