Stipend – Drama Coach

Position Summary:
This is a stipend role for an individual to lead out-of-school-time drama activities including the direction and management of theater and musical-theater productions for high school students.


Typical Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engaging and well planned after school drama classes and rehearsals.
  • Present performances of high musical and theatrical quality for the school and community, including choir concerts, straight plays, and musical theater works.
  • Program music and theater works of high quality in a variety of genres that will push students to grow as musicians/actors and also allow for assured success.
  • Collaborate with teachers in associated subjects to extend students skills and development.


Essential Physical Demands:

  • Constant lifting 5 to 20 pounds
  • Frequent lifting 20 to over 50 pounds
  • Constant standing, walking
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, climbing, kneeling.
  • Occasional crawling, sitting, stooping.

Candidate Profile


Education and Certification:


  • Bachelor’s degree in media arts, theater education, or related field preferred.


Experience and Skills:


  • Previous experience teaching, producing, and directing youth theater.
  • Ability to connect with students and develop strong, positive student-teacher relationships built on mutual trust, respect, and high expectations
  • High levels of energy and enthusiasm, to instill a love of drama, theater, and performance in participating students
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to both recruit and retain students in a performing arts program
  • Flexibility, with a keen sense of humor
  • Comfort and experience in both music/theater performance and education settings
  • Desire to cultivate a theatrical culture within a school
  • Desire to build a choir and theater program into the high school grades
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully engage with students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and volunteers from the community.
