Position Summary : Under the general supervision of the Data Analytics manager, the Assistant Data Analyst performs technical work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility in the field of data analysis .

Reports to : Director of Data Analytics, Data Analytics Manager

Direct Reports : N / A

Key Relationships : The Retirement System Assistant works closely with staff throughout BERS and other City Retirement Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates service and salary data for accuracy and identifies problems.
  • Computes retirement benefits and participates in the analysis and evaluation of production records and trends.
  • Responds to inquiries which have been forwarded from other units.
  • Keeps records, searches and updates files and retrieves information using computers and paper records.
  • Generates reports and graphs from database query results
  • Automate simple data extracts and reports

Qualification Requirements :

Minimum

  • An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 9 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and / or actuarial science; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations in one or more of the following : a) a retirement or employee benefits plan; b) for customer service in a financial institution; and / or c) in a position requiring the application of law, rules and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial or similar tables; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and / or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and / or actuarial science from an accredited college or one year of experience as described in "2" above. College education may by substituted for experience in "2" above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience.
  • Plus

    In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above

    Preferred

  • Experience with APRL, CHRMS, EIS, PMS, and V3.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Salary : $56,328 - $62,848

    Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
