Position Summary : New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) provides resources and programs to improve building and resource efficiency, addressing environmental issues and social inequities to support lasting change. The collaborative team manages numerous programs across nearly 1,900 schools and 1,500 buildings that foster stakeholder engagement, climate action, and optimize operations to reduce environmental impact.
The Office of Energy & Sustainability (OES) works with school-based stakeholders, central NYCPS Offices, non-profit partners, and other City agencies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste and maximize waste diversion, and support the connection of climate and sustainability leadership and action to staff and students. The mission-focused Office supports a variety of ambitious, City-aligned sustainability and climate goals and Mayoral initiatives.
The Energy Project Manager (EPM) will oversee projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve energy use reduction through building upgrades to accelerate and amplify agency progress towards ambitious climate and sustainability commitments under Local Law 97 (NYC Climate Mobilization Act). The Energy Project Manager will work closely with the Borough Energy Manager to oversee the daily progress of energy projects and ensure projects are completed accurately per technical specifications, on time, on budget, and with transparency and a high degree of professionalism. The incumbent must possess strong management skills and be able to work collaboratively with the OES team, contractors, other city agencies, and facility personnel within NYCPS. Key Relationships : Work closely with Energy Managers, Director of Energy Management, Chief Sustainability & Decarbonization Officer and Office of Energy & Sustainability team, technical and Maintenance teams, Custodian Engineers, Division of School Facilities- central and borough teams, contractors, school-based staff, Department of Citywide Administrative Services' (DCAS) Division of Energy Management (DEM), and School Construction Authority.
Responsibilities
- Working as part of the Energy Management team in the Office of Energy & Sustainability, plans, executes, and manages all planned decarbonization projects focused on emissions reductions, energy efficiency, and improving school buildings for staff and students. Serve as the primary field representative for a portfolio of energy projects, and as the lead for project updates and impact for the leadership team.
Responsible for the timely and cost-effective implementation of Accelerated Conservation and Efficiency (ACE) programs, Expenses for Conservation and Energy Leadership (ExCEL), retro-commissioning, and other energy projects and funding programs, including the following : ACE Program for capital projects.
Qualification Requirements :
Minimum
One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating or expediting, on engineering and / or architectural and / or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more, and either :
Assignment Level II : Special Requirements
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience as described in "1" above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and / or complex construction project.

Salary : $96,619 - $100,000
Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
