About the Curriculum Lead:
Reporting to the Director of Teacher Development, the Curriculum Lead will monitor curriculum implementation and instruction to ensure excellence in teaching that supports student achievement across subject areas and within an assigned group of schools (elementary, middle or high). Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring that a high-quality ongoing professional development program is implemented in a manner that contributes to the development of highly effective teachers.
The Curriculum Lead is responsible for:
- Working with building principals and teacher teams to develop and implement internal systems and procedures that advance instructional quality and ensure alignment of program practices to the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards and district goals and frameworks
- Supporting program implementation of selected curricula, assessment tools and any supplemental materials.
- Assisting in the selection of relevant instructional materials
- Assisting with coordination of instructional support for new teachers
- Ensuring the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the district’s instructional programs by supporting the school-based implementation of the district’s Instructional Framework, participating in the systematic review of curriculum and instruction and recommending revisions as appropriate through developed structures, systems and processes
- Applying best practices of pedagogy, various curriculum delivery methods and professional development to ensure - and improve - teacher effectiveness
- Evaluating and reporting on the impact of building-based professional development activities pertaining to teaching and student learning
- Using data to monitor and report on student and school performance
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem-solving and consensus-building expertise, and ability to delegate responsibilities effectively
- Previous success in shifting student achievement at the classroom level
- Strong instructional foundation and current knowledge of instructional techniques and programs
- Thorough knowledge of Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards, current educational research and best practices for instruction
- Ability to interpret data and assist teachers in using data to shift instruction
- Understanding of inclusive practices, standards-based literacy and mathematics instruction, and integrated/cross-curricular approaches
Required Certifications/Licensures:
- Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Curriculum Development, Education Leadership, Education Administration or other closely related area
- Valid Mississippi Educator Licensure
Required Experiences:
- Three years successful teaching experience
