Sioux Center Community School District is seeking a highly motivated Elementary English as a Second Language Teacher beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
We are looking for a passionate ESL Teacher who will be responsible for teaching English as a second language to our students. In this position, you will create lesson plans, develop instructional materials, and assess students’ progress. You will also be expected to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment to help students improve their English language skills.
Qualifications
- Fluent in English language
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum)
- Iowa Teaching License (with appropriate endorsements)
- Mandatory Reporter: Child Abuse & Dependent Adult Abuse
- Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or equivalent
Responsibilities
- Teach English as a second language to students of various ages and proficiency levels.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of individual students and groups.
- Assess students’ language abilities and tailoring instruction to meet their needs.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
- Maintain an inventory of classroom instructional supplies, textbooks, and materials, and exercise control of the care of the same.
- Be informed of the educational philosophy, goals, and policies of the district.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Maintain district policies and regulations.
- Participate in initiating, implementing and coordinating any changes in curriculum.
- Stay up-to-date with current trends and developments in ESL teaching and incorporate them into instruction.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the building administration and in compliance with the negotiated agreement.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
