Position Title: Head Volleyball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director / School Administrator
Position Summary:
The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for leading the school’s volleyball program, developing student-athletes both on and off the court. This includes planning and executing effective practice sessions, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship, ensuring student-athlete development, and upholding the school’s values and athletic policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Player Development
Design and implement effective training programs to develop fundamental and advanced volleyball skills.
Plan and lead team practices, skill development sessions, and game strategies.
Foster a competitive, disciplined, and positive team culture that encourages growth and sportsmanship.
Provide constructive feedback to players to enhance their individual and team performance.
Develop conditioning and strength programs to improve athletes’ physical performance.
Game & Competition Management
Develop effective game strategies, analyze opponents, and adjust gameplay accordingly.
Organize and manage team rosters, lineups, and player rotations during matches.
Oversee and manage game-day logistics, including warm-ups, strategy meetings, and player readiness.
Promote a high level of competitiveness while ensuring respect for officials, opponents, and sportsmanship.
Program Administration & Leadership
Work with the Athletic Director to schedule games, tournaments, and travel arrangements.
Coordinate with assistant coaches, trainers, and support staff to ensure efficient team operations.
Monitor and enforce academic standards and eligibility requirements for student-athletes.
Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities, schedules, and expectations.
Maintain team records, statistics, and reports as required by the school and athletic department.
Recruitment & Player Retention
Promote and encourage student participation in the volleyball program.
Identify and recruit potential athletes from within the school and feeder programs.
Provide mentorship and guidance to players interested in pursuing volleyball beyond high school.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all practices and games follow school, district, and state athletic association policies.
Promote proper techniques and injury prevention strategies.
Maintain CPR, first aid, and required coaching certifications.
Uphold and enforce team rules, school policies, and athletic department guidelines.
Qualifications & Skills:
Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies.
Ability to teach and mentor athletes of varying skill levels.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, school staff, and the athletic department.
Commitment to sportsmanship, integrity, and the overall development of student-athletes.
Ability to manage and balance administrative duties alongside coaching responsibilities.
Education & Certification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or a related field (preferred).
Coaching certification as required by the state’s athletic association.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, run, and actively participate in practices and games.
Availability for evening and weekend games, as well as travel for competitions.
Ability to lift equipment and set up practice or game facilities as needed.
