Jr/Sr High School Art Teacher

Colfax-Mingo CSD is seeking a dynamic and innovative Jr/Sr High School Art Teacher to foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration in students through the visual arts. This will include students from grades 7-12. The ideal candidate will integrate 21st-century skills into their teaching practices, preparing students to thrive in a global, interconnected world.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Art Instruction and Curriculum Development:

   • Design and deliver engaging art lessons that align with state and national standards.
   • Foster technical skills in a variety of mediums (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art).
   • Integrate contemporary art practices, technology, and digital tools into the curriculum.

2. Developing 21st-Century Skills:

   • Cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation through project-based learning.
   • Promote collaboration and teamwork through group projects and critiques.
   • Support communication skills through student presentations, artist statements, and exhibitions.
   • Encourage media literacy and digital citizenship in the use of technology for artistic creation.

3. Student Engagement and Growth:

   • Inspire students to explore their unique artistic voices and perspectives.
   • Provide constructive feedback to enhance skill development and self-expression.
   • Develop opportunities for showcasing student work in school, community, or online platforms.

4. Classroom Environment and Management:

   • Create an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
   • Foster respect for diverse artistic traditions and perspectives.
   • Maintain an organized and safe classroom, including proper care of tools and materials.

5. Professional Development and Collaboration:

   • Stay current with trends in art education and technology.
   • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to integrate arts into the broader curriculum.
   • Engage in continuous learning and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
• State teaching certification or licensure for  secondary art education.
• Proficiency in traditional and digital art mediums (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modeling software).
• Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
• Commitment to fostering creativity, equity, and inclusivity.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience teaching diverse student populations.
• Knowledge of contemporary art practices and global art history.
• Ability to integrate cross-disciplinary themes (e.g., STEAM, sustainability).
• Familiarity with organizing student art shows or competitions.

Working Conditions:
