What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Counselor position at TeachIowa?
Logan-Magnolia CSD sit in Southwest Iowa approximately 30 miles north of the Council Bluffs/Omaha Metro Area. The district has a rich history of high academic performance and outstanding community support. The 2025-2026 school year brings a big change for the district as we will be moving from a junior high setting to a middle school setting. This newly created position will serve students in grades 5-8 and be a vital role in our efforts to serve our students in the middle grades better.
Position Criteria:
- Master's Degree in School Counseling, required
- Experience working with students in middle grades (5-8) preferred
Performance Responsibilities
- Care for and support students with passion
- Create and maintain positive, healthy relationships with students
- Guide individual and groups of students through the development of education, personal, social and career needs
- Counsel individuals and groups of student who demonstrate specific needs
- Help students evaluate career interests and choices
- Work with students as the navigate the unique challenges of being a middle grade student
- Guide students in their participation in school and community activities
- Confer with parents when necessary and ensure they have the resources necessary as partners in education
- Provide in-service training in guidance for teachers and district staff
- Determine and implement behavior supports and intervention, in compliance with district policy and building expectations
- Consult with administrators, teachers, parents and staff regarding children's needs
- Pursue continuous professional growth
