Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill an Specialized Supervisor /Special Education Director position. This position would be split as a (2 days per week) Special Education Director - Red Oak and the remaining 3 days as a Specialized Supervisor

Qualifications: Candidate must have one of the following:
- Iowa BoEE 189 - PK-12 Special Education Supervisor
- Iowa BOEE Endorsement 239 - Director Special Education
Preference for three years of professional experience in PK-12 special education.
Iowa Evaluator Approval or ability to get this by August 1, 2025 (required).
Green Hills AEA’s Special Education Director Shared Position provides district-level leadership and expertise in the development, coordination, and compliance of special education programs. This service ensures districts have access to experienced professionals who support legal compliance, program improvement, and resource allocation, aligning with best practices and state requirements.
The District contracts with AEA leadership to staff for one to four (1-4) days per week of support and collaboration, as determined by need, capacity, and agreement. The AEA staff member will perform job duties beyond their assigned GHAEA regular, priority expectations during the time they are allocated to support the district.
The Special Education Director position provides professional services in:
- Leadership & Coordination of Special Education Programs – Oversight and guidance in developing, implementing, and maintaining effective special education services.
- Data Analysis & Decision-Making Support – Leading administrators in reviewing student data to determine resource allocation and program effectiveness.
- Consultation & Collaboration – Working with teachers, administrators, and AEA staff to ensure best practices are implemented at the classroom, building, and district levels.
- IEP Design & Compliance Support – Partnering with school teams to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for all entitled students.
- Professional Learning & Staff Development – Providing training on:
- Best practices in special education
- State and federal compliance
- Implementation of effective instructional strategies
- Support for District Policy & Procedures – Lead administrators for understanding of and to enforce district policies, ensuring compliance with special education laws and regulations.
- Alternate Assessment Coordination – Assisting in the monitoring and implementation of alternate assessments for eligible students.
- Curriculum & Instructional Alignment – Collaborating with district and AEA education teams to integrate special education needs into broader curriculum planning.
State & Federal Reporting Assistance – Supporting districts in preparing and filing required special education reports.
The Specialized Supervisor shall be responsible for assisting in the efficient and effective operation of special education services of the Agency. The role of the position is to provide leadership in the planning, coordination, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive plan for special education services.
Evaluate and support AEA Staff based on assigned zones to develop and strengthen performance, growth and job satisfaction. Also will be responsible for the AEA Office in the assigned area.
Develop meaningful relationships with AEA staff to ensure high quality special education programs and services are provided to districts.
Collaborate with agency administrators to ensure the AEA is providing the most essential and effective services and supports to students and teachers.
Support administrators with data analysis and decision making related to the allocation of special education resources
Consult with teachers, administrators, coordinators, and AEA staff regarding best practices in special education for the classroom, building, and district educational programs.
Assists in the maintenance, analysis, recommendations and implementation of effective special education practices based on student data.
Support all Agency initiatives, programs, and goals established in the name of service to member school districts
Interface with parents of IEP students, collaborate with LEA staff in special education matters, coach and support district leadership in special education administration and leadership.
Demonstrate a depth of understanding of and ability to support schools in implementing ESSA school improvement plans, the Iowa Universal Tier Tools (UTT) , Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and the Self Assessment of MTSS Implementation (SAMI), Special Education IDEA-DA accountability, as well as other specific strategies and programs.
Collaborate with Discipline Coordinators and others as needed to assign special education representatives and Speech/Language Pathologists portfolio districts, ensuring balanced caseloads and match of AEA staff skills to school needs.
Coach, offer feedback and provide training and insight on an individualized, personalized basis, with the goal of improving or enhancing building staff skills and leadership leading to increasing student achievement and success in all the AEA’s schools.
