What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strength and Conditioning Coach/Weight Room Coordinator position at TeachIowa?
Responsibilities and Duties:
1) Programming and Coordination:
- Develop and implement comprehensive weight room programming/strength and agility for ALL student-athletes.
- Coordinate with in-season sports coaches to establish lifting schedules that align with team training plans.
- Work with coaches to develop and finalize off-season strength and conditioning plans for athletes.
- Provide equitable sessions for both Boys and Girls to utilize the weightroom.
- Seek out opportunities to expand lifting options to younger North Linn students as a way to introduce safe lifting procedures.
- Coordinate in partnership with school P.E. teacher to facilitate weight room goals and expectations to synchronize lifting plans and programming.
- Programming comparison with P.E. teacher does not have to be the same but should not detract from the goals of one another
2) Athlete Supervision and Coaching:
- Actively coach and supervise athletes in the weight room during sessions.
- Ensure proper technique, safety, and effectiveness of strength training exercises.
- Foster a positive and disciplined weight room culture.
3) Facility Accessibility:
- Open the weight room a minimum of four (4) times per week for student-athlete use.
- Sessions should be no shorter than 90 minutes in length and be offered at a variety of before and after school opportunities.
- Session times can be “flexed” at coordinator’s discretion to allow maximum opportunities in the weight room.
- Example: Eight 45-minute sessions per week with four in the AM and four in the PM
- Sessions can be verified with compiled calendars submitted to the AD and posted for student use
- Provide guided, structured lifting sessions for athletes with active coaching to ensure consistency, engagement, and safety.
4) Substitution and Coverage:
- Arrange for in-season sports coaches to substitute when the Weight Room Coordinator is unable to meet scheduled obligations if necessary.
- Only when substitution options have been exhausted will weight room sessions be canceled.
- Communicate schedule adjustments and substitutions in advance to ensure consistent access for athletes.
- Communication takes place through email or communication app.
Expectations:
- Maintain a safe and organized weight room environment.
- Hold cleanliness standards encouraging student athletes to pick up after themselves and return equipment properly.
- Collaborate with the athletic department and coaching staff to support overall strength and conditioning goals.
- Serve as a resource for athletes and coaches regarding proper lifting techniques, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
- Adhere to all North Linn School District policies and guidelines regarding athletic training and supervision.
