Midstream Commercial Advisor

This Houston-based oil and gas exploration and production company, part of a larger global enterprise, is heavily invested in significant energy projects, including the Marcellus Shale Gas Project in Pennsylvania and the Eagle Ford Shale Oil & Gas Project in Texas. They also manage two unconventional natural gas assets in Texas, positioning them as key players in domestic energy production.

SUMMARY :

The Midstream Commercial Advisor supports all midstream operations and commercial functions and supports the asset managers to extract the most value from both upstream and midstream assets, as well as carry out the role in alignment with the CLIENT mission statement, vision, and core values. This entails proactively managing capital and opex budgets, understanding midstream and other related downstream contracts, contract negotiations, effectively communicating critical issues, influencing partners to positively affect their decisions, train less experienced professionals, participate on teams targeting asset acquisitions, expanding partner and 3rd partner relations and effectively manage the midstream function in accordance with the various agreements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Originate, evaluate, negotiate and recommend midstream commercial transactions that serve to maximize value for CLIENT's upstream investments.
  • Manage and monitor midstream operations for both CLIENT owned midstream assets and assets / systems providing services to CLIENT's upstream entity
  • Present midstream operator proposals and attain required CLIENT decisions within contractual deadlines. Provide research and analysis to support recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners and operators to support commercial and operating enhancements. Promote HSE excellence in areas of influence.
  • Analyze complex midstream deal structures and recommend preferred positions
  • Discern data inaccuracies through technical experience and knowledge
  • Utilize strong influencing and negotiation skills to positively impact the company
  • Prepare midstream operational budgets and forecasts for pertinent approvals
  • Review and check AFEs and prepare recommendations to the company
  • Demonstrate ability to identify, quantify, deliver and capture value in midstream transactions
  • Communicate with strong oral and written skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate at all levels of the company.
  • Provide analysis of midstream and marketing assets associated with prospective acquisitions
  • Improve knowledge base by attending relevant conferences and seminars
  • Train and mentor less experienced professionals regarding the midstream function

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES :

  • Demonstrated ability to discern contract language, negotiate contracts and the innate ability to cope with the various nuances faced when dealing with multiple parties
  • Demonstrated ability to exemplify strong presentation skills and interpersonal skills with partners, senior management and colleagues
  • Ability to work through complexity and in a large global business environment
  • Must be able to handle confidential information with a high degree of responsibility
  • Possess refined interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, including writing and telephone communication skills
  • Operates with integrity, teamwork, open communication and a strong sense of ownership / accountability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with little to no supervision.
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • Engineering degree or equivalent related work experience required. Engineering degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 15-20 years of midstream experience required
  • Midstream leadership experience preferred
  • Understanding of both operations and commercial aspects of midstream contracts and a firm understanding of upstream operations and how it fits into the midstream business
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • Fluent verbal and written English skills.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

    This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and may need to routinely move around to communicate with different groups
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
