Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Insurance Collection Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for following up on insurance balances to ensure timely payments from insurance companies and liability carriers. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills and can effectively engage with patients, payers, and staff.
The Collector will maintain productivity standards, generate reports, update demographic information, and ensure compliance with insurance billing requirements. The role also requires proficiency in operating billing software, documenting follow-ups, and writing effective appeals to insurance companies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct insurance collection activities, including contacting insurance providers and patients.
- Review and update insurance information as needed.
- Address claim denials and clearinghouse rejections daily.
- Work assigned accounts receivable (AR) reports and special projects as directed.
- Analyze claim rejections/denials and determine whether to resubmit or file an appeal.
- Document all actions taken on AR Aging Reports and Over/Under Reports.
- Process all payer appeal requests within the required time frame.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of billing and collection policies, including various insurance types (Workers Compensation, HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.).
- Ability to identify problems, analyze data, and interpret billing information accurately.
- Expertise in reading and understanding Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs).
- Effective and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with DME (Durable Medical Equipment) and O&P (Orthotics & Prosthetics) collections is a plus.
Requirements:
- Experience: 1-2 years in medical insurance collections or billing (DME experience preferred).
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Job Type: Remote Full-Time
