Job Summary:
We are seeking a visionary Director of Data Platform & Operations to lead the strategy, development, and operational management of our enterprise data platform. This senior leadership role requires a blend of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and operational excellence to drive the growth, scalability, and resilience of our data infrastructure. The Director will oversee teams responsible for database administration, data architecture, data platform engineering, and critical data tooling (e.g., Tableau Server, Plotly Dash, OpenSearch) while shaping the future of our data operations to meet evolving business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Platform Strategy & Innovation:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive data platform strategy to support organizational growth and scalability of the organization supporting both real-time and batch data processing strategies.
- Lead the adoption of modern cloud-native architectures, infrastructure-as-code practices, and data platform modernization efforts.
- Evaluate and implement technologies to enhance data accessibility, analytics capabilities, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with the key business stakeholders to overall define the data strategy for TAG including investments with business objectives.
- Define emerging data technologies missions and values in areas such as Generative AI, advanced analytics and leading data technologies
Platform Operations & Performance:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the data platform, ensuring reliability, performance, and data security.
- Oversee the database organization to support high-volume, mission-critical polyglot SQL and NoSQL database solutions in our cloud environment
- Ensure that the data organization maintains comprehensive observability, monitoring, and incident management processes across the different data functions.
- Lead platform governance efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of DBAs, Platform Engineers, and DataOps professionals.
- Develop career growth pathways and training programs to upskill team members on modern data technologies.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and innovation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Delivery:
- Collaborate with Data Engineering, Analytics, Product & Business Stakeholders to deliver scalable, self-service data capabilities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, translating data platform capabilities into tangible business outcomes.
- Lead data platform support for key company initiatives, including new product launches, analytics enhancements, and data governance.
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement:
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for platform performance, availability, and data quality across the data faculties
- Establish feedback loops with data consumers to continuously improve platform usability and performance.
- Drive automation and process optimization to reduce operational overhead and increase efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 10 years of experience of working in a data or related technical role with the management of data
- 5 years in a leadership role, overseeing technical teams and/or large-scale data infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in SQL, including performance tuning, high availability, and security practices.
- Proven track record of leading cloud migrations, preferably on Google Cloud Platform.
- Hands-on experience with data tooling such as Tableau Server, Plotly Dash, OpenSearch, and other modern analytics platforms.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles, including CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
- This role is onsite 4 days/week in our Fulton Market office
