Secondary CTE Law and Public Safety Instructor
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a public safety Instructor, you will provide students with hands-on experience in key areas such as emergency management, criminal justice, and law enforcement. Instructors are responsible for delivering instruction, aligning to state-approved competencies and credentials, and ensuring student safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate Vocational Education Teaching Endorsement to teach state-approved Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security program (CIP Code 43.0100) or 4,000 hours of paid recent (last 10 years) and relevant work experience to qualify for Annual Career Authorization in Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security. (CIP Code 43.0100)
- Previous High School and/or Adult teaching experience.
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience as a Public Safety Professional
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, student-centered learning environment that meets and exceeds the subject matter standards, following the district's approved curricula and directives.
- Plan, prepare, and implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate of active student engagement in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identify, select, create, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assist in maintaining effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community members.
- Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment for students by participating in activities that include, but are not limited to, team teaching, meetings, staff development, communities of practice, and various committees.
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings effectively and timely, and demonstrating respect for others.
- Adherence to Perkins Core Competencies for the 43.0100 CIP Code
- Maintain a current advisory committee that includes local law enforcement and criminal justice stakeholders.
- Plan a Program of Study that follows the curriculum of the Office of Career and Technical Education.
- Maintain all TRAC-CTE Portal documents and expectations as directed by the Office of Career and Technical Education.
- Order required Law Enforcement equipment, supplies, and textbooks for the program.
- Teach and deliver state-approved industry credentials.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Some light lifting and general mobility around the campus area are frequently necessary.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a school office, classroom environment and in other SCCRESA buildings. Most work is performed at the St. Clair County Career Tech Center campus.
EVALUATION: Employees in this classification are evaluated according to current Board policy.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADVANCEMENT: Advancement would be possible within the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 185-day school year, 6.5 hours/day position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Paid sick and personal business days. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus 2 or Defined Contribution).
SALARY RANGE: Per IEA bargaining agreement
START DATE: Tentatively August of 2025, pending board approval and successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
