School Summary:
TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA CMVS) is a tuition-free virtual public school serving students in grades K–12 statewide, the highest performing CMVS in the State. TECCA opened for the 2014–15 school year with approval by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Connections Academy is a division of Connections Education, which is accredited by AdvancED.
Position and Responsibilities:
The Counselor is responsible for providing group and individual counseling to identified K-12 special education students in a virtual setting. The Counselor is expected to be trained and experienced in a wide range counseling strategies and be familiar with accepted professional practice. The Counselor is expected to be knowledgeable of the features of disabilities included in special education regulations and the impact of disability on leaning. The Counselor is expected to be part of the special education Team at TECCA and contribute to the development of an appropriate educational program for students.
Duration of Contract: Immediately-June 16, 2025
The Counselor is expected to:
•Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified needs.
•Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group and individual activities to meet student needs and school goals.
•Have an understanding of the full continuum of mental health care services, such as prevention and intervention
•Understand how mental health concerns can create barriers to learning and use strategies to eliminate those barriers
•Have a clear understanding of legal, professional and ethical issues
• Work with students to develop critical life skills such as organization and time management
• Complete reports and associated documents within the regulatory timelines in accordance with state and federal mandates pertaining to special education.
• Participate in Team Meeting when appropriate; contribute to the determination of eligibility for special education services or other appropriate educational plans.
•Complete Progress Reports twice per school year
• Consult to special education team on student related concerns when appropriate.
• Complete any and all paper work and data entry required to maintain compliance with special education requirements and TECCA requirements.
•Understand and maintain confidential treatment of all information related to a student and his/her program
•Have experience and skill using technology to communicate and record information
Additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor
Qualification: Minimum of a Master’s Degree and certification as a School Counselor Massachusetts.
Valid MA DESE Certification as either a school adjustment counselor/social worker/school psychologist required.
Preference given to candidates with experience with school age students in a school environment.
Salary : $150
