What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) ( RN Required) position at Tech Medical Home Care Services?
PURPOSE:
To establish the Job requirements of an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADoN).
The ADoN assists the Director of Nursing Services in directing the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to patients of Tech Medical Home Health on a 24- hour, 7 days per week basis.
The Assistant Director of Nursing Services shares responsibility for backing up RN staff on a 24-hour per day, 7 days per week basis
Responsibilities
1. Oversees the clinical operations of licensed and non-licensed clinical staff as directed by the Director of
Nursing
1a. In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services performs the duties of the Director.
2. The Assistant Director of Nursing Services compliments the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing and supervising the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to Tech Medical patients. This position assists with the development and implementation of nursing services, objectives, policies and procedures in accordance with Federal and
State regulations.
The Assistant Director of Nursing shares with the Director of Nursing Services, the responsibility for selecting Nursing Department staff, completing employee appraisals and resolving problems involving employee disciplinary action.
3. Provides reports/recommendations as needed/required for the Director of Nursing Services concerning the operations of Nursing Services.
4. Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis.
5. The Assistant Director of Nursing Services may confer with residents' physicians on an occasional basis to clarify medical orders and direct care.
6. In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, conducts staff meetings.
7. Assists the Director of Nursing Services in ensuring nursing staff awareness and compliance with Federal and State regulations relative to resident rights issues.
8. Assists in nursing administrative calls.
9. Participates in a rotating call schedule with Director of Nursing and Administrator.
10. Participates in audits of employee and patient records for accuracy and quality assurance.
11. Participates in probationary and annual evaluations of clinical staff.
12. Participates in the development and implementation of clinical competencies and in-services.
13. Participates in the development of stock par levels, and assists DON in ordering supplies.
14. Provides care and ensures that other clinical staff provide care according to the plan of care as ordered by the physician.
15. As directed by the DON will conduct scheduled and/or unscheduled visits to patient care sites for quality assurance.
16. As directed by the DON will participate in the submission of data to various software for billing, quality assurance, and auditing purposes.
17. As directed by the DON will provide marketing services to an assigned group of facilities, physicians, or other entities.
18. Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Conditions
1. Position is stressful in terms of responsibilities and meeting deadlines
2. The ability to drive and the ability to access client’s homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible
3. Hearing, eyesight and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform physical assessment of the client’s condition and to perform client care
4. On occasion it may be required to bend, stoop, reach and move client weight up to 250 pounds; lift and or carry up to 30 pounds
5. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
6. Risk of blood borne pathogens is limited
Equipment Operation
1. Requires the ability to utilize a PC, calculator, multi-line telephone, and other office related equipment.
2. Use of BP cuff, thermometer, and stethoscope
3. Computer basics – data entry
Company Information
1. Has access to all client medical records which can be discussed with all management staff, including
Administrator and Director of Nursing.
Qualifications
1. Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred;
2. Shall be a healthcare professional with training and experience in health services and at least 1 year supervisory experience in home health care or related health programs
3. A licensed Registered Nurse in the State where work will be performed.
4. 3-5 years of responsible nursing experience, preferably in Home Health;
5. Excellent computer, communication and management skills or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience, respect for principles of resident rights, confidentiality, EEO and ADA
