What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Therapy Assistant position at Tech Medical Home Health & Personal Care Services?
PURPOSE:
A Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) administers physical therapy to patients on an intermittent basis in their place of residence. This is performed in accordance with the physician’s orders and plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist and Director of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
1. Understand and adheres to established Agency policies and procedures
2. Provides physician prescribed physical therapy under a plan of care established by the PT
3. Improves or minimizes residual physical disabilities of the patient
4. Returns the individual to optimum and productive level with the patient’s capabilities
5. Participates with all other health care personnel in patient care planning
6. Performs all skilled procedures as ordered by the physician and according to the plan of care established by the PT
7. Consults with PT regarding changes in treatment
8. Instructs patient and family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises
9. Participates in in-service education and presents in-service programs as assigned
10. Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned
11. Attends all patient care conferences as scheduled
12. Prepares medical records and updates care plans for each patient visit in a timely manner as per agency policy
13. Performs services planned, delegated and supervised by the PT
14. Assists in preparing clinical and progress notes
15. Participates in educating the patient and family
16. Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Conditions
1. Works in office area as well as in patient homes with frequent movement during working hours.
2. The ability to drive and the ability to access client’s homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible
3. Position is stressful in terms of responsibilities and meeting deadlines and is subject to frequent interruptions.
4. Hearing, eyesight and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform physical assessment of the client’s condition and to perform client care
5. On occasion it may be required to bend, stoop, reach and move client weight up to 250 pounds; lift and or carry up to 30 pounds
6. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with the medical staff, nursing service, and other department directors.
7. Risk of blood borne pathogens is limited
8. Is involved with patients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc, under all conditions and circumstances.
Equipment Operation
1. Requires the ability to utilize a PC, calculator, multi-line telephone, and other office related equipment.
Company Information
1. Has access to all client medical records which can be discussed with all management staff, including Administrator and Director of Nursing.
Qualifications
1. Graduate from a two-year college level program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association
2. Currently licensed as Physical Therapy Assistant in the State where work is performed.
3. Two (2) years experience, preferred
4. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
5. Acceptance of Philosophy and goals of the agency
