Overview
The Endoscopy Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, providing support during endoscopic procedures. Duties
- Prepare the endoscopy suite by ensuring all necessary equipment is sterile and functioning properly.
- Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures by providing instruments and supplies as needed.
- Maintain patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and report any changes to the medical team.
- Ensure compliance with aseptic technique to prevent infection.
- Clean and reprocess endoscopic instruments according to established protocols.
- Document procedures and maintain accurate records of patient care.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
Performs various duties as a member of the health team in the treatment and care of patients and their families and also assists with tasks to support the unit. Works under the supervision of the RN. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span, ability to recognize data reflective of the patient status, and inform the Registered Nurse of observations
Skills: Takes and monitors vital signs when necessary. Performs EKG's. Assists with medical procedures as required. Assists with the placement of pulse oximetry. Performs routine maintenance/cleaning of equipment and instruments. Notifies appropriate personnel regarding any malfunction in equipment. Assists in inventory control for medical supplies. Sets up oxygen and suction. Collects specimen sand and brings it to the lab when necessary. Stoc exam rooms including educational materials. Retrieves Endoscopy reports from the computer system as needed. Provides instruction and information to patients. Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies, initiates CPR, and provides the necessary items called for the team. Transport patients and equipment as needed. Performs all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the RN within the framework of the New York State Nurse Practice Act and BIMC Policy and Procedures."
Education: "Ability to read and write English at 10th grade level. Ability to perform math at 9th grade level Certification as an NA/PCA preferred. Highly recommended: BCLAS Certificate, ACLS Certificate, PALS Certificate." AHA HeartSaver or BLS Required.
