MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
An Infection Preventionist (IP) must :
Be currently Certified in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC), which indicates competence in the actual practice of infection prevention and control and healthcare epidemiology.
Have completed post-secondary education in a health-related field, including but not limited to medicine, nursing, laboratory technology, public health, or biology.
Have a minimum of two years of work experience as required for CIC eligibility with direct responsibility for providing consultation to healthcare departments or assigned practice settings on infection prevention and control program elements, practices, and processes, as well as products used within healthcare facilities or providing direct supervision of those who perform these responsibilities.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
This position is under the direct supervision of an IP Supervisor.
The IP communicates and collaborates regularly with the supervisor, Project Firstline program lead, and team members.
The IP shall provide updates to the supervisor and Project Firstline program lead about the progression of the Project Firstline activities.
The IPs specific duties are as follows :
Develop, plan, and facilitate infection prevention and control training course(s) to enable participants to pass the CIC exam.
Develop, plan and provide training sessions for Department of Health field office personnel β epidemiology research associates, community health nurses, and facility surveyors- focusing on enhancing and expanding their infection prevention and control expertise.
Construct educational text messages to address knowledge gaps among healthcare workers.
