What are the responsibilities and job description for the LABORER, TRUCK HELPER (FURNITURE) position at TECH SYSTEMS INC?
Duties, Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
· As a member of a moving team, assist in the movement and transportation of furniture and various other types of equipment and items between rooms, buildings and facilities located primarily at NASA Langley Research Center.
· Un-crate, dismantle and assemble office and laboratory furnishings and equipment both on-site and in a warehouse. Furniture items may also require cleaning and minor adjustments prior to delivery to the customer.
· Load furniture, equipment and other items onto a truck using a power lift gate and/or forklift. Protect furniture and other items with moving blankets and secure/brace them to prevent damage while in transit to the off-load point.
· Off-load furnishings, equipment, and other items from a truck.
· Operate up to a 25,999 GVW straight truck to deliver and pick-up furniture and other items from various locations both on and off Langley Research Center.
· Perform minor repair of furniture, e.g., replace missing or broken pull handles, doorknobs, or table legs.
· May be involved in supporting pick-up and delivery of miscellaneous items not associated with a scheduled furniture move.
· Receive work assignments and move priorities from the Furniture Moving Team Lead and/or the Moving Services Coordinator.
· Observe all company safety requirements.
· Perform housekeeping duties to include collecting and properly discarding furniture packing/crating materials and keeping the delivery vehicles clean.
· Assist customers with moving preparations.
· Maintains good housekeeping habits and, as a condition of employment, will comply with TESSADA safety requirements in all facets of work assignments.
· Perform additional work assignments as the Supervisor, Furniture Team Lead or Move Coordinator may direct.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent.
· Capable of stooping, walking, and climbing stairs. Also, must be able to push, lift and move furniture and other heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
· Experience operating forklifts up to 8,000-pound capacity.
· Practical knowledge of material handling equipment (*e.g., hand trucks, dollies, staircats) and techniques used to move furniture and other heavy objects safely and efficiently without damage.
· Familiar with basic use of hand tools to assemble/dismantle furniture and equipment.
· Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.
· Possess a valid Virginia State Driver’s license.
