Overview
Our client will be hiring a CMM Technician to support high volume production of small, precision-molded metal components and contribute to the development and validation of new products. Program, operate, and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality throughout the manufacturing process. Possess a strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and statistical process control, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
This position reports to the Quality Manager.
Responsibilities:
CMM Operation and Programming (30% of time):
- Program and operate CMMs (OGP) using Zone 3 software.
- Develop and optimize CMM programs for complex geometries and tight tolerances.
- Perform routine and non-routine dimensional inspections of manufactured components.
- Ensure accurate and repeatable measurements in a production setting.
Quality Control and Inspection (20% of time):
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Perform first article inspections (FAIs), in-process inspections, and final inspections.
- Analyze measurement data and generate detailed inspection reports.
- Identify and document non-conformances and deviations from specifications.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) techniques to monitor process capability.
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration (20% of time):
- Perform scheduled calibrations of metrology equipment (handheld gauges, CMM, specialized tools).
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, calling in outside support as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and calibration.
Product Development Support (20% of time):
- Assist in the development, measurement and qualification of new products.
- Provide dimensional feedback to engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Perform capability studies and gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) studies.
Documentation and Reporting (10% of time):
- Maintain accurate and organized inspection records.
- Generate and present inspection reports to engineering and management.
- Document CMM programs and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience as a CMM Technician in a manufacturing environment, preferably with high-volume production of small, precision components.
- Proficiency in programming and operating CMMs (OGP, Zeiss, Mitutoyo) using software such as Zone3, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), blueprint reading, and dimensional metrology.
Preferred:
- Experience with molded metal components a plus.
- High-volume production of small, precision components.
- Experience with gage R&R studies.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC)
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
