Job Description:
The Electrical Engineer provides forensic consulting services requiring electrical engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. This role involves assessing and determining the cause and origin of electrical failures and damages. The engineer will provide oral and written reports of findings and, when needed, offer expert testimony.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform investigation and analysis within the field of electrical engineering based on an agreed-upon scope of work and budget to resolve claims and legal matters.
- Conduct field investigations to determine the cause and origin of electrical system defects and equipment failures.
- Prepare oral and written reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, repair scope, and recommended remediation.
- Provide opinions and expert testimony in litigation matters when necessary.
- Manage multiple projects, coordinating with other experts and supporting teams to ensure timely report delivery.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including safe work requirements.
- Apply electrical engineering principles, equations, and methodologies to perform analysis.
- Ensure compliance with land use laws and regulations.
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships.
- Gather photographic evidence, document on-site conditions, oversee field testing, and review historical documentation.
- Use cameras, microscopes, electrical testing equipment, and digital imaging techniques for documentation in field and lab settings.
Required Experience, Education, and Certifications:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
- P.E. License required.
- 2-10 years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Field experience is highly preferred.
- Depending on location, other licenses or certifications may be required.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computer-assisted engineering and design software.

- Experience in writing scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, and technical reports.

- Ability to climb ladders, walk on roofs, enter confined spaces, and operate lifts.
- Physical ability to move up to 50 pounds when necessary.
Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel:
- Physical Demands: Work will be conducted in both office settings and field locations (industrial, construction, and residential sites). Frequent standing, climbing, bending, stooping, and crawling may be required.
- Overtime: Position is salaried and classified as exempt under FLSA. Regular hours are 8:00 AM 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with the potential for overtime as required by business needs.
- Travel Requirements: Position requires up to 25% travel, including some out-of-area and overnight travel.
