Position Overview
The Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and successful completion of low-voltage technology system projects for residential and light commercial clients. This role focuses on delivering systems such as structured cabling, home automation, lighting, motorized shades, security, and audio/video systems.
The Project Manager serves as the critical point of contact between the internal team, clients, and project stakeholders. By coordinating teams, managing resources, and driving effective communication, this role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Coordination
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and timelines.
- Review project requirements, scope of work, and system designs to ensure alignment with client expectations and company standards.
- Collaborate with Design, Operations, and Field Technicians to deliver efficient solutions.
- On-Site Project Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and trades on job sites.
- Oversee the installation of low-voltage systems, ensuring quality control and adherence to design specifications.
- Perform site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Resource and Team Management
- Coordinate the efforts of Programmers, Lead Technicians, and Field Technicians to maximize productivity and quality.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to on-site teams to foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Manage labor schedules, resource allocation, and project staffing.
- Leverage internal support staff for delegated tasks
- Documentation and Communication
- Maintain accurate project records, including schedules, budgets, requested change orders, and progress reports.
- Communicate project updates, challenges, and resolutions to stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal leadership.
- Track and manage project change orders, ensuring client approval and proper documentation.
- Financial Oversight
- Manage project budgets, ensuring labor and material costs align with forecasts.
- Request purchase orders and coordinate material delivery schedules.
- Monitor billing, assist with invoicing, and track payments.
- Client Interaction
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
- Address client concerns promptly and professionally, offering effective solutions.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in project management, preferably in low-voltage systems or related fields (AV, security, or home automation).
- Strong understanding of low-voltage systems: structured cabling, audio/video, lighting control, shading systems, security, and home automation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and system design documentation.
- Proven leadership experience, including team supervision and resource coordination.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills to resolve on-site challenges quickly.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for working with clients, trades, and internal teams.
- Proficiency in project management tools and office software.
- Certifications (preferred): PMP, CTS, CEDIA, BICSI, or equivalent industry credentials.
