Qualifications
Who are YOU?
You are an experienced organic chemist with a background in extracting and analyzing samples for Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in water and soil. In this role, you will perform laboratory testing to support the U.S. EPA Laboratory. You should be able to multitask, be highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently, with minimal supervision.
What does your day/week look like?
- Conduct the extraction, sample preparation and analysis of environmental samples for pesticides and PCBs
- Perform analysis of Methane, Ethylene, and Ethane (MEE) in aqueous samples by HS-GC with FID.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instruments and operate other instrumentation as trained
- Prepare reagents and samples to be used in performing assays
- Demonstrate proper cleaning techniques for work area, instrumentation, and equipment
- Interpret and evaluate data, create an Electronic Date Package (EDP), and upload results LIMS for a final report
- Perform review on the organic analytical data to ensure completeness and integrity of results
- Perform sample disposal and laboratory cleanups for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
- Perform peer review for organic data validation
- Perform SOP review, internal audit, and corrective action when needed
- Monitor workflow for incoming samples
- Check pending survey of samples and schedule workload accordingly
- Support general organic lab operations and functions, including monitoring and requesting supplies and materials to maintain lab supply inventory
- Track inventory of supplies and reagents to ensure no interruption of workflow
- Trend and monitor key performance metrics as assigned by supervisors
- Assist other TechLaw offices upon request
What do you need for this amazing opportunity?
- BS or BA in Chemistry or related scientific discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant analytical chemistry experience; organic chemistry preferred
- Experience with basic laboratory safety practices and QA/QC requirements
- A solid background in analysis and interpretation of data
- Excellent computer skills; proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Authorized to work in the United States, with ability to obtain and maintain state and federal security clearances
- At least 21 years of age, with a valid driver's license and safe driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work standing for long periods, work inside a chemical laboratory and handle chemicals all day, and wear personal protective equipment
- Ability to complete company-provided environmental training (e.g., 40- or 24-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification)
