Overview
We are seeking a Process Controls Engineer for our Atlanta, GA office. This role requires a hands-on engineer with expertise in electrical and controls engineering for project design, programming, commissioning, and start-up. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting client sites in Atlanta, with occasional travel (approximately 10-20%) to out-of-state client locations. Weekend work will be required as needed.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to existing and proposed processes, collaborating with clients, vendors, and consultants. Projects will primarily involve process systems with some packaging systems, spanning industries such as food & beverage, chemical, and others.
- Manage electrical controls project execution, either independently or as part of a team. Responsibilities include: Control system design, Controls programming, Project documentation
- Site start-up support for integrated systems
- Design and upgrade PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems.
- Generate electrical schematics, control panel designs, electrical installation bid packages, and supervise installation activities.
- Deliver projects within aggressive schedules, ensuring accuracy and strict safety compliance.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5 years of process controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in system design and hands-on project execution
- Strong research skills to specify new equipment, processes, and technologies.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
- Experience in supervising fabrication and installation activities.
- Ability to support production start-ups, ensuring projects meet safety, operational, and functional requirements.
- Industry experience in food, beverage, or chemical manufacturing preferred.
Technical Skills & Experience
Software & Tools:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
Industrial Control System Design:
- Electrical control panel design, electrical schematics, and MCC layouts.
PLC Programming:
- Creating, modifying, and troubleshooting Rockwell Automation ControlLogix/CompactLogix, PLC 5, and SLC systems.
HMI/SCADA Systems:
- Experience with FTView, iFix, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.
Drives & Field Devices:
- Specifying and troubleshooting Rockwell VFDs.
- Troubleshooting discrete and analog field devices.
Communication Networks:
- Designing and troubleshooting Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, ASi, ModBus, etc.
Control Loops:
- Designing and tuning PID control loops.
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and people skills.
- High professional ethics.
Essential Functions
- Fieldwork required.
- Must be able to climb ladders, walk over crossovers, and access equipment.
- Must be capable of walking long distances within a manufacturing plant for required meetings and duties.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle report (MVR) in accordance with company and client policies.
