General Accountability and Summary

The Civil Construction Superintendent will be a key member of the construction management team,

reporting directly to the Project Manager. The Superintendent will oversee all day-to-day aspects of civil

construction activities on-site during the construction program. This individual will ensure that civil works,

including earthworks, concrete, foundations, and roadworks, are performed safely, efficiently, and in

alignment with the project schedule, budget, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE)

a. Ensure strict adherence to HSE regulations, site-specific safety requirements, and

environmental standards.

b. Conduct regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and inspections for all civil construction activities.

c. Address and report any safety incidents, near-misses, or environmental concerns promptly.

2. Leadership and Supervision

a. Lead and manage all civil construction activities, providing direction to contractors, subcontractors, and site personnel.

b. Act as the primary point of contact for civil works, ensuring smooth coordination with other construction disciplines.

c. Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, and accountability among all civil construction teams.

3. Civil Construction Management

a. Supervise and coordinate civil construction activities, including site preparation, grading, excavation, backfilling, and concrete works.

b. Review and enforce adherence to project plans, drawings, and specifications for all civil works.

c. Collaborate with engineering and design teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure constructability.

d. Monitor construction progress and identify potential risks or delays to civil activities.

4. Quality Assurance and Control

a. Along with the Field Engineer, inspect civil works regularly to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

b. Identify and address deviations or deficiencies in civil construction activities.

c. Work closely with the quality control team to ensure proper documentation and inspection of all civil-related work.

5. Coordination and Communication

a. Act as the liaison between civil contractors, other on-site disciplines, and the project management team.

b. Participate in daily and weekly coordination meetings to align civil construction activities with overall project priorities.

c. Provide regular updates to the Construction Management Team on the status of civil works and any emerging challenges.

6. Resource Management

a. Oversee the contractor’s allocation and utilization of personnel, equipment, and materials for civil works.

b. Ensure that the contractor is adequately planning for the timely delivery of materials and equipment to support uninterrupted civil construction activities.

c. Address productivity issues with the contractor and participate in resource allocation optimization to meet project deadlines.

7. Documentation and Reporting

a. Maintain detailed records of civil construction activities, including daily progress, labor hours, equipment usage, and weather conditions.

b. Prepare and submit daily progress reports to the Project Manager.

c. Ensure all civil construction documentation, including permits and inspection records, is properly maintained.

8. Risk Management

a. Participate in the construction risk management efforts.

b. Identify risks associated with civil construction activities and develop mitigation strategies to minimize delays or cost overruns.

c. Ensure contingency plans are in place for critical civil construction tasks.

Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.

Equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in civil construction supervision, preferably in mining or

heavy industrial projects.

  • Proven track record of managing large-scale civil works, including earthworks, concrete, and

infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment specific to civil works.
  • Familiarity with mine safety regulations (e.g., MSHA) and environmental standards.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and tools.
  • Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams in a remote and dynamic work environment.
  • Willingness to work on-site in a remote location for extended periods.
